Trench Decay: Weapons and Equipment Types
Recognize firearm and melee families in the Field Journal, then connect a weapon choice to campaign progression and acquisition.
Trench Decay's Field Journal includes sidearms, automatic guns, rifles, shotguns, heavy machine guns, and melee equipment. Use the weapon family to narrow your next choice, then compare its handling and acquisition route instead of treating every named gun as a direct upgrade.
This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.
Recognize the gun families
Sidearm entries include M1911, Mauser C96, Double-0, and The Hand Cannon. Automatic choices include Bergmann MP18 and The Tommy M1918, while rifle entries include Lee Enfield, Mosin Nagant, Type 38 Arisaka, and Mannlicher M95.
These names give you a starting directory, not a promise that every weapon shares the same role. Keep the specific gun's behavior in mind. A familiar-looking sidearm may have a very different firing pattern from another item in that group.
| Family | Examples |
|---|---|
| Sidearms | M1911; Mauser C96; Double-0; The Hand Cannon |
| Rifles | Lee Enfield; Mosin Nagant; Type 38 Arisaka; Mannlicher M95 |
| Automatic and heavy | M1918 BAR; Lewis Gun; MG-08 |
| Shotguns | Trench Shotgun; The Demolisher |
| Melee | Trench Knife; Trench Shovel; Aegis |
Use heavy and close-range choices deliberately
M1918 BAR, Lewis Gun, MG-08, Trench Shotgun, and The Demolisher appear in the journal alongside the lighter choices. Decide what you want the next weapon to do before spending toward it. A sustained-fire goal and a close-range burst goal are different loadout decisions.
Campaign chapters increase enemy health and the power of weapons found during the run. Reconsider an opening weapon as the campaign advances instead of assuming its name alone makes it the right choice for every chapter.
Keep melee equipment in the comparison
The journal also lists Trench Knife, Sickle, Machete, Shovel, Hatchet, Mace, Pickaxe, Hammer, Colonels Sabre, Commandants Cuirassier, and Aegis. Treat those as another equipment family rather than a cosmetic list.
Acquisition matters separately from role. Warbonds combine weapons and cosmetics, while discovery and individual purchases can serve a different goal. Choose a weapon you intend to use before turning a bundle into your next spending target.
Weapon directory questions
Is this every weapon in the game?
This is a selected journal directory, organized to help you recognize equipment families.
Should I choose by the name alone?
No. Compare the actual role and handling.
Where do I learn the loadout differences?
Use the loadout guide before carrying one mode's kit assumptions into another.
