Trench Decay: Class Tier List
Compare class roles for general squad play, understand mode-dependent recommendations, and choose a role worth your class progression.
For a general cooperative campaign, I would prioritize Medic and Quartermaster before buying a more specialized Trench Decay class. This editorial class tier list values squad sustain and practical support; Engineer becomes more attractive when fortifications are central to the mode you are playing.
This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.
S tier: sustain the squad with Medic or Quartermaster
Medic handles healing, reviving, and Decay cleansing. Quartermaster supplies ammunition and guns and can work with weapon traits. Those jobs address problems that can interrupt an otherwise capable squad: players going down or a useful gun running out of support.
The recommendation assumes you want to help a cooperative group finish campaigns consistently. It does not mean every squad needs several copies of the same class. Pick the role you will actually perform, then let the rest of the team cover a different weakness.
| Tier | Classes | When the advice changes |
|---|---|---|
| S | Medic; Quartermaster | Another teammate may already cover the support job. |
| A | Marksman; Defender; Enlisted | A clear rifle, blocking, or loot-running role raises their value. |
| B | Engineer; Sapper | Fortification or melee-focused play can move them ahead. |
| Specialist | Infiltrator; The Decayed | Separate access and playstyle need their own decision. |
A tier: match a combat specialty to your habits
Marksman favors rifles and reconnaissance; Defender blocks damage and draws attacks. Enlisted focuses on loot running and survival. These roles are easier to value once you know what you tend to do during a run.
A player who reliably handles rifle threats can make Marksman more useful than a support class they never use. Defender similarly needs a willingness to occupy a defensive role. I place them below general support here because their value depends more directly on the task you bring them to.
B tier for general campaigns does not mean weak everywhere
Engineer specializes in structures, while Sapper emphasizes melee and movement. Their value rises when the campaign or mode rewards those jobs. A fortification-focused session can make Engineer a better choice than this general ordering suggests.
Infiltrator and The Decayed have separate access and more specialized identities. Do not turn a late or unusual class into a compulsory beginner purchase. The normal class route opens at Level 5 and commonly costs 150 Medals; those special classes are exceptions to that rule.
Buy a role you will progress
Class-specific actions earn skill points, which you spend under CLASSES in the lobby. Pick a role whose progression actions fit the way you want to play. Healing as Medic and building as Engineer support different habits.
Is this an official class ranking?
No. It is an editorial ordering for general squad support.
What if I mostly play defense?
Prioritize the role that serves that mode; the best-class guide explains choosing by task.
