Trench Decay: Controls, Sliding, and Dodging

Last updated 2026-10-10Unofficial player article

Learn slide inputs, the class-perk dodge requirement and supported directions, then separate movement controls from Preferences settings.

In Trench Decay, slide while running with C or the controller's Right Stick; V is an alternative keyboard input. Dodging is a separate class-perk action: after unlocking it, double-tap A, D, or S. There is no forward dodge.

This related gameplay video provides context for the campaign and equipment decisions below.

Slide from the running state

Sliding and dodging are not the same input. Start with running when using the slide action, then use C or the Right Stick. V is the alternative keyboard input described for the same movement.

I would learn this movement in a calm moment before relying on it during a dangerous encounter. The useful goal is knowing which action you are requesting, rather than pressing several movement inputs while unsure whether you are running or using a class perk.

Movement input distinctions
ActionInput or condition
SlideC or Right Stick while running; V is an alternative.
DodgeUnlocked class perk, then double-tap A, D, or S.
Controller dodgeRepeated left-stick movement after the perk unlock.
Forward dodgeNot available.

Unlock the perk before expecting dodge

The dodge action depends on the class perk. Once available, double-tap A, D, or S; controller use involves repeating the left-stick movement. It cannot dodge forward, so repeating forward movement is not the same request.

If the action does not happen, separate a missing perk from the wrong direction. A class requirement will not be solved by pressing the key more quickly. Choose the supported direction and use the action you actually have unlocked.

Use Preferences for comfort rather than inventing bindings

The developer lists FOV, Brightness, Volume, Sensitivity, Gamma, Aim Assist, and Auto Shoot under Preferences. Those settings can help make the screen and aiming comfortable, but they are separate from the slide and dodge conditions.

Adjust one setting when you have a specific symptom. If aim passes beyond the target, reduce Sensitivity and compare the feel. If the scene is too dark to follow, try Brightness or Gamma before replacing the entire control setup.

Control questions

Can I dodge forward?

No. The listed dodge directions are sideways or backward.

Is sliding locked behind the dodge perk?

These are separate actions; the dodge has the class-perk condition.

Where is aim comfort explained?

Read the settings guide for Preferences adjustments.
